Clutch slave cylinder
I have replaced the seal of the clutch slave clinder and now can only get the piston part way in. the new rubber seal get through but then it doesn't go any further.
Does anyone have an top tips?
Its a 1997 Cooper with Verto clutch. I'd tried to speed up the replacement by not removing the cylinder from the car so it still in situ.
Gratful for any help!!

You should lubricate the new seal with brake fluid before you insert it. You also need to be extremely careful that the seal doesn't get twisted as you push it in. If you've done that, and it makes no difference, it's always possible you've got the wrong seal....

thanks will try to take the ting out tonight and get a proper look at it!! don't want to make a mess of the drive though
sounds like the better option is to swap it for new clylinder.

taking it out was a much better option and i managed to coax the seal in place with a blunt screw driver with a latex gloves over it and it slipped in with no effort. SORTED!

It would be a Verto clutch, so you would need a slave cylinder to match.

Clutch slave cylinder leak
As I was removing the clutch/flywheel cover on my car and withdrawing the push rod from the slave cylinder, some clutch fluid leaked out.
Do you know if this is normal or are the seals/piston knackered?

If it's only a few drops then it's not too serious, any more than that and it means the seals have gone and for the few pounds it costs it's worth replacing the entire thing.

Clutch Cylinders
Are Verto And Non Verto Clutch Slave Cylinders Interchangable?

hard brake pedal
Sounds like one or more slave cylinders has seized/rusted up through lack of use.

Rock Hard clutch pedal
Thanks Tim
I have replaced the Master Cylinder already and i stripped the slave to see if it was seized and it was fine. When i open the bleed valve on the slave it goes down no bother. If i leave it for a day or 2 the pedal will go down only once then brick hard again. The clevis pin is in correctly because it was the bain of my life doing that Master Cylinder.

Sprite brake bleeding
Still no joy? Have you tried disconnecting the brake pipe into the slave cylinder to see if any fluid comes out? If it does, then try pressing the brake pedal very gently to see if that increases the flow. If that works, then there must be a blockage in the slave cylinder.

Clutch biting much to low
Thanks for the advice and i tried all of the above but what I worked it out to be is that the new slave cylinder, as it wasn't pushing the clutch arm far enough out so it wasnt engaging the clutch fully, so what i done is put a few small nuts in the slave cylinder and now it bites where it should as it pushes the arm out further.

verto
A non-verto clutch has the slave cylinder inline with the engine, just over the back of the clutch bell housing. A verto clutch slave cylinder points at 45 degrees down towards the right front wheel.

Cylinders
Master cylinder will set you back about 40 quid for a plastic alternatic to the metal expansion tank. And a Slave cylinder is abt 25 quid. If there is a puddle on the floor it sounds like the seal has gone in the slave cylinder. If it was the master cylinder that had gone it would have letfluid into the drivers footwell. As a jobs goes its not to bad 2 hrs max but you will need assistance to bleed the system.

I cant get it out of reverse!!!!!!!!!
Mine seized too after 6 months of sitting. Fault was located in the slave cylinder where there was an air inlet: impossible to bleed the hydraulic piping beacuse of continously formation of bubbles in the fluid. Changing the slave cylinder issued the problem.
